Tissue Types Flashcards
- Epithelial
Covers body surface and line cavities. Function includes protection, absorption, secretion and sensation.
- Simple Squamous Epithelium
A single layer of flat cells. Functions in diffusion and filtration.
- Cuboidal Epithelium
Cube-Shaped cells, often involved in secretion and absorption.
- Columnar Epithelium
Tall, columnlike cells. Functions in absorption and secretion
- Connective Tissue
Supports, binds and protects other tissues. Functions include storing energy
- Adipose Tissue
A type of connective tissues that stores fat. Functions in energy storage, insulation and cushioning of organs.
- Bone Tissue
A rigid connective tissue that provides structure and support. Functions in protection of organs and mineral storage.
- Blood
A fluid connective tissue that transport nutrient, gases and waste products. Functions in immune response and regulation of body temperature.
- Muscle Tissue
Responsible for movement. Skeletal, Cardiac, Smooth.
- Nervous Tissue:
Composed of neurons and glial cells. Functions in transmitting signals throughout the body, processing information.
