Tissue Flashcards
1
Q
What are the two types of bone
A
Cortical (hard and soil 80% )and Trabecular (Porous 20%)
2
Q
Briefly explain living tissue
A
Remodels over time, Cortical bone = becomes thicker in areas subject to frequent stress
Trabecular bone = organization becomes denser
3
Q
Briefly explain Bone Remodelling
A
Activation beings due to damage or just replacing old bone
Resorption - osteoclasts seal off the area . Release enzymes that dissolve mineral & organic matrices
Reversal - Osteoclasts die (apoptosis). Osteoblasts attracted to area. Osteoblasts form ring (cement / reversal line) around resorbed area
Formation - Osteoblasts secrete osteoid & proteins to stimulate mineralization
