  1. Subjective: most common, the one most associated with hearing loss.
  2. Objective: usually due to muscle contractions (ex. TMJ).
  3. Pulsatile: red-flag, usually associated with a more serious issue (tumour, heart problems, etc).

Is there a cure for tinnitus? What can be done?

A

No there is no cure.
1. Noise floor: using a white noise such as a fan or humidifier can help cancel out the tinnitus.
2. Hearing aids: a lot of people who have tinnitus and hearing loss will report their tinnitus improves with hearing aids.
3. TRT (tinnitus retraining therapy): a type of therapy designed to help change the persons emotional perception and reactions to the tinnitus.
