Timing and revision, VR Flashcards
What makes extreme language relevant?
By looking at the wording in the question, I can use it to help predict the answer, since questions using extreme language are more likely to be false or can’t tell.
True, false, can’t tell questions can be hidden at the end, what do I need to look out for?
Don’t spend too much time on other questions when TFCT questions is often easier.
Why should I not skip forward to the easier questions?
Because I’ll loose track of the timing and I would be wasting my time skipping forward and back.
What should I keep in mind for author questions and looking for their opinion?
Look at the conclusion first for the authors opinion. It might not be there, but often it is.
What should I do if the author question is very long and complicated?
I should guess. The texts are often long and require a lot of reading, so skimming and guessing is the way to go. It is better to guess than leave it blanc.
Why can strongest opinion questions be tricky?
Because there might be 3 strong opinions and then one opinion that is stronger than the others.
Why can negative questions be tricky?
Because they take a lot of time. Instead of finding one answer, you have to find 3 and pick the answer that’s missing.
What should you do with statement questions?
Once you find the correct statement, don’t spend time checking the other statements.
What should you do when practicing?
Try to simulate the conditions, like using the calculator on the computer rather than in hand and get used to doing the tests on screen and not on paper.
What do they like to put in the UCAT?
Extra difficult questions that are very timeconsuming. Just stick to the time throughout, and guess on the ones that are extra difficult to answer.
Verbal reasoning is the first section, what do you not do at the exam?
Don’t be a perfectionist or double check answers. It wastes time, and you quickly get behind.
What is the keyword approach?
The keyword approach is when, instead of reading or skim reading a passage, you read the first two lines to find the general subject and then skim for the keywords, which will save you time.
There is a flagging function in the test. Should you use it?
No, the time is already very limited so always put an answer down since you’ll likely not get to revisit it.
If you use the flagging function, what should you avoid?
Flagging too many can make you confused, and you’ll have to reread a lot which wastes time.
Why is the theory important?
Because you might be able to wing it if you just practice questions, but by knowing the theory to each type of question, you know how to recognize and handle each in the most efficient way.
