adjust (v.)
Parts of speech : adjustment (n.), adjustable (adj.)
to change something slightly to make it fit, work better, or be more suitable
ex. Travelers are advised to adjust their watches before arriving in the new time zone.
arbitrary (adj.)
Parts of speech : arbitrate (v.), arbitrator (n.), arbitrarily (adv.)
Chosen simply by whim ( ความคิดเพ้อฝัน ) or chance, not for any specific reason.
ex. Her outfit was an arbitrary choice but was just perfect.
denominator (n.)
Usage tips : The phrase lowest common denominator means “the most basic and unsophisticated ( ซื่อๆ ) things that most people share.”

in a fraction (= part of a whole number), the number written below the line, showing how many parts the whole contains
ex. In the fraction ½, the number 2 is the denominator ( ตัวหาร )
exponentially (adv.)
Usage tips : Exponentially is taken from mathematics, where an exponent ( เลขชี้กำลัง ) is a number indicating ( บ่งบอก ) how many times something is multiplied by itself. For example, 4 ยกกำลัง 3 contains the exponent “3,” indicating 4x4x4

At a very fast rate.
ex. In Turkey, the value of the lira has decreased ( ลดลง ) exponentially in the last several decade ( ครบรอบ 10 ปี ).
infinitesimal (adj.)

extremely small
ex. Even in infinitesimal amounts, this poison can kill you.
maximize (v.)

To increase or make as great as possible
ex. A coach helps each athlete maximize his or her potential.
parallel (adj.)
Usage tips : Parallel in often followed by “to”

(of two or more straight lines) being the same distance apart along all their length
ex. The street where I live runs parallel to the main road through town.
proportion (n.)
Usage tips : Proportion is often followed by “of”
Parts of speech : proportionate (adj.), proportionally (adv.)
A part in relation to the whole
ex. The average employee spends a large proportion of each workday answering e-mails.
rate (n.)
Parts of speech : rate (v.), rating (n.)
The cost per unit of a good or service; the motion or change that happens in a certain time.
ex. Postal ( เกี่ยวกับที่ทำการไปรษณีย์ ) rates in Japan are among the highest in the world.
sequence (v.)
Parts of speech : sequence (n.), sequentially (adv.)
To organize or arrange in succession ( ความต่อเนื่อง )
ex. The test papers were not in the correct alphabetical sequence.
