Anterior pituitary + thyroid gland
What is the stimulus for TSH?
Low body temp, low levels of TSH
Release stimulated by thyrotropin-releasing hormone from hypothalamus
What is the response for TSH?
Increased metabolic rate
Regulation of temperature
What are the characteristics of Goiter?
-Lack of iodine for T3 and T4= enlarged thyroid
What are the characteristics of Hyperthyroidism?
-Graves (skinny & crunchy)
-Increased metabolism
-Irregular/rapid heart beat
-Increased temp.
-Weight loss
What are the characteristics of Cretinism?
-Low Thyroid hormone as a child
- Dwarfism
-Mental disabilities (retardation)
What are the characteristics of Myxedema?
-Low Thyroid as an adult
-Low temp
-Weight gain
-Low heart rate
