Risk of malignancy increased if: child Adult less than 30 or over 60 Previous head and neck radiation Pain Cervical lymphadenopathy

What investigation is done if a single thyroid nodule?
A
Fine needle aspiration

What are the main types of Thyroid cancer?
A
Papillary - multifocal, sprea to local lymph nodes, good prognosis
Follicular- single lesion, matastases to lung and bone, good prognosis if resectable

Management of thyroid cancer
A
Near total Thyroidectomy
High dose ablative radiation
Long term suppression of thyroxine until cancer is under controll
