What is Hashimoto’s?
A
Autoimmune hypOthydroism
Low levels of T3/T4 due to an autoimmune attack on the thyroid gland.

Anti TPO (anti- thyroperoxidase)
Anti TG (anti- thyroglobulin)

A
Dry skin Hair loss Enlarged tongue Puffy face Sensative to cold Weakness Carpal tunnel Heavy periods Weight Gain Constipation Bradycardia Goitre Odema Depression
Low T3/T4 levels
High TSH due to lack of negative feedback.

What test’s do you do for Hashimoto’s?

TFTs
Glucose
FBC
Test for antibodies (anti-TPO and anti-TG)

How is Hashimoto’s treated?
A
Levothyroxine is given daily

What are other causes of hypothyroidism?
A
Agenesis/maldevelopment
Iatrogenic- e.g postoperatibe
Iodine deficiency
Secondary:
pituitary tumour
Post- radiotherapy
