Condition caused from decreased levels of TH
Primary- hashimotos ex
Secondary-pituitary non functioning tumor

Goiter
A
Can occur with hypo or hyper cause of increased TSH
With primary hypo- hashimotos-increased cell division- goiter and increased TSH
May have low Bp first with hypo, then due to stress and cortisol, Bp can go up

Myxedema
A
Inflammation, non pitting edema under eye, thickness of tongue and slurred speech

Hypothyroidism treatment
A
Start elderly on low dose cause of heart complications
Levothyroxine- Inhibits TSH secretion- allowing gland to rest

Hyperthyroidism treatment
A
Anti thyroid drugs
Methimazole and propylthiouricil
Subtotal thyroidectomy, radioactive iodine
