Thyroid Flashcards
2 Most common tracers for parathyroid scans?
TECH99-M MIBI or TETRO
Primary hyperparathyroidism is caused by what 3 things and what percentage of causes with each?
Parathyroid Adenoma (85-90%), Hyperplasia (10%) and Parathyroid carcinoma (<1%)
Dual isotope scanning can be done to differentiate thyroid from parathyroid. Name the 2 tracers….
Tech 99M MIBI and I-123 (thyroid)
Most common cause of hyperthyroidism is?
Graves.
Differentiating graves from toxic multinodular goiter?
Graves is diffuse tracer uptake , toxic multinodular goiter is heterogenous
What is the main differentiating factor between graves and subacute thyroiditis?
Graves has very high RAIU, whereas Subacute Thyroiditis is low RAIU (usually <3%)
After tech 99 m is eluted what does compound is in the “kit” that allows it to be reduced so it can therefore bind in the body?
Chloride 10- binds more avidly to the oxygen molecules on the t-99m and allows it to be reduced….where it can then therefor bind in the body.
