Renal Flashcards
What are the main tracers used for Renal evaluation?
DMSA (Cortical function/scarring eval) and MAG3 for Tubular Excretion evaluation (BOTH ARE T99M labeled)
What is the KeV of Mag 3?
140 KeV
What are the 3 phases of a renogram?
1- Vascular Transit phase (30-60 sec)
2- Cortical/Tubular Concentration phase (1-5 min)
3- Excretion phase
What is the normal half time of T1/2 of excretion in a normal kidney?
8-12 min is the normal Half time of excretion
What is the biological and physical half life of MAG 3?
Physical is 6 hours (it is T99m labeled) and Biological is 4 hours.
What type of renal scan would be performed for cortical issues?
DMSA (or less commonly glucoheptonate) as well as using a pinhole camera or high-resolution collimator
How does septa length (on a collimator) affect imaging?
In general, the longer the septa, the better the resolution but the lower the count rate (sensitivity) for a given amount of radionuclide.
The emission of a positron or an electron is referred to as ____ decay.
beta
In beta decay, the _______ is accompanied by a neutrino, a massless(?) and chargeless particle.
positron
