What is Kocher test?
It is a test used to look for tracheal compression by a thyroid
» The swelling is pressed slightly on either side of trachea. If trachea is already compressed, patient will have stridor
» Kocher’s test negative (no stridor)
» Kocher’s test positive (stridor on compression of both lobes)
Complications of Thyroid surgery
1) Hemorrhage
2) Injury to nerves
3) Post op respiratory distress (m/c complication)
4) Hypothyroidism
5) Keloid
6) Recurrence
