What is the function of platelets?
A
Platelets perform in the cessation of bleeding

What causes arterial thrombosis?
A
Most likely cause: inappropriate activation of platelets.

Why does this occur in arteries?
A
Because atherosclerosis only occurs in arteries. Rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque exposes lipids which are thrombogenic.
