Thrombolytics are medications used to dissolve dangerous clots to prevent occlusions or dislodging of blood clots!

What is important to remember about thrombolytics?

• ALWAYS obtain baseline vital signs & labs
• start at least TWO IVs: one for the thrombolytics & one for fluids/medications/blood, etc., whatever is necessary
• monitor/observe for HR changes
• start heparin therapy
• ***chest pain should RESOLVE quickly
• ***monitor for S/S of bleeding (increased risk for bleeding with thrombolytics)
