Three Types of Muscles Flashcards
Skeletal
-allow our bodies to move
-attached to bones with tendons
-or attach directly to organ/other structure
-striated or striped
Is the Skeletal muscle voluntary or involuntary?
voluntary
-uses acetylcholine and neuromuscular junction
Cardiac Muscle
-generate electric impulse
-connected by intercalated disc to make them beat at the same time
-striated
Is cardiac muscle voluntary or involuntary
involuntary
Smooth Muscle
-found in blood vessels and many internal organs (GI or bladder)
-slower contractions than cardiac or skeletal
-under control of sympathetic or parasympathetic branches
-not striated
Is the smooth muscle voluntary or involuntary
involuntary
Tendons
connect bone to muscle or muscle to muscle with extensions of connective tissue
Tendon layers
endomysium, perimysium, and epimysium
Fascia
sheets of connective tissue that connect muscles to blood vessels, nerves, and body cavities
