the quote tells us he is regretful of how he used to be. The verb wept shows us he was very sorrowful and upset and we feel very sorry for scrooge and why he has to suffer.

the quote tells us scrooge wishes he could go back in time and re-do all the things he never appreciated. The use of ellipsis shows us his pause which adds tension. We feel empathy towards him and his feelings.

the quote tells us that scrooge has been intimidated and fully guided by this spirit. The use of exclamations shows how loud and desperate he is and the reader feels grief for him as they see how he has changed.

the quote suggests how old the children look even though they are just little kids we can see this from the use of a semantic field the audience feels sadness and grief for the children for how withered and mistreated they’ve been made.

the quote emphasises the cruelty these children have done through the use of the adjective doom the reader sees that they have done something so bad that on their brow doom is engraved no grief or sorrow is given to these children.
