What is the reproductive system?
The organs and tissues involved in producing offspring.
Name the main organs of the reproductive system in men.
Glands, sperm ducts, urethra, penis, testes
Where are sperm produced?
The testes
What tubes carry sperm from the testes and out of the body

How is the sperm adapted to its function?
-a tail to move them towards an egg cell
-many mitochondria to provide energy
-an acrosome (part of the tip of the head) that releases enzymes to digest the egg membrane

Oviducts, ovaries, uterus, cervix, vagina
Where are eggs produced?
The ovaries
Where does the foetus develop?
The uterus
How does the egg cell reach the uterus?
Through the oviduct
Name some changes that happen to boys during puberty.
voice breaks (gets deeper)
testes and penis get bigger
testes start to produce sperm cells
shoulders get wider
hair grows on face and chest
Name some changes that happen to girls during puberty.
breasts develop
ovaries start to release egg cells (the menstrual cycle starts)
hips get wider
How long is the menstrual cycle usually?
28 days
What happens in day 1 of the menstrual cycle?
The lining of the uterus breaks down and menstruation starts
What happens by the end of day 5 of the menstrual cycle?
The loss of blood stops, the lining of the uterus starts to regrow, an egg starts to develop in one of the ovaries
What happens at about day 14 of the cycle?
Ovulation-a mature egg is released from one of the ovaries
