A

Who is the governor general?

A

He/she is a role which represents the monarch of Britain and gives “royal assent” to federal bills. They are included in both executive and legislative branches of government.

What is the executive branch?

A

It is a branch of government which includes the prime minister, cabinet and in a way the governor general. They propose most of the bills which become laws. (most power)

A

He/she is the leader of their party which they ran for. They are the person who runs the country.

A

it is a group of elected MP’s appointed by the PM to take care of different areas of the country.

What is the legislative branch?

A

It is the section of government which includes the house of commons, the senate and the governor general. They are also known as Canada’s parliament and they make bills in laws by voting.

What is the house of commons?

A

It is the major law making body in the government and they are elected by their constituents. They are now accountable to them and there are 308 seats in the house of commons. (also 308 riding’s) ALSO KNOWN AS LOWER HOUSE

A

It is a member of parliament and they are elected by their constituents. they are accountable to them as well.They represent all 308 riding’s of Canada.

What is the senate?

A

It is a second stage of appointed people who examine bills before they become laws. Also known as the “sober second thought” and look at for things which are included in Canada’s constitution. (minorities) ALSO KNOWN AS THE UPPER HOUSE.

A

The 105 members who make up the senate.

What is the difference between minority government and a majority government?

A

Minority: when the HOC includes no party with the majority of the seats(155 seats) so the party with the most seats becomes the leader.

Majority: when the HOC includes a party with the majority of seats. they become leader.

A

They are the residents in a particular MP’s riding.

A

It is the process of laws being created in parliament

A

The exact number of votes one party revived. Not all popular votes win.

What is the judicial branch and what is the supreme court of Canada?

A

it is the section of Canada’s government which checks on the other two. it is made up of 9 Judges who come from the legal profession. It has the final say on all legal questions in Canada. they deal with minority issues.

What is the process for making a bill to a law?

A

the bill starts at the house of commons, then goes to the senate and finaly goes through the governor general. The first two stages go like this; First reading(bill is introduced), second reading( main ideas of bill debated, can reject), committee stage( in depth study, changes are made, can reject), report stage( changes discussed) and the third reading(debate and final vote on bill)

Why would we want a senate reform or a senate abolish? what do these words mean?

A

Because the citizens of Canada dont like how there are no term limits and you are appointed and not voted upon. they could just be the PM’s friends.

reform: to change
abolish: to get rid of.

What are lobby groups and what do they do?

A

they are groups which have the intention to influence or pressure the government in their decisions for the groups better.

What is accountability?

A

to be able or to need to confess or answer your questions about your actions. if you are accountable to someone you are trying to look good for them.
