Quality of life: the degree of well-being felt by an individual or group of people
$tandard of living: a level of material comfort in terms of goods and services available to someone or to some group

What are social programs and how are they paid for?
Social programs are services provided by the government to reduce economic inequality well being of citizens

Income tax- based on what you make: The more you make the more you pay
Sales-tax: based on what you spent: The more you spend/ buy the more you pay

It is an organization of workers that acts to protect workers rights and interests.
What is the public good?
What is best for society as a whole.
What are the positives and negatives of labour unions toward the quality of life?
Positives: quality of life is increased because they have power, they get good benefits, and they get work done
Negatives: they can go on strike, you cannot make what you want(it’s what the whole makes) it’s bad for the employer.
What are the main roles of labour unions in mixed and free market economies? How are they different?
Mixed: they see that all workers should be treated fairly, that it gives everyone a choice, everyone works better, it is their right by the law. They are good for mixed economy.
Market: they see that unions create UNemployment,they create unneeded strikes, isn’t fair for the public good that they can stop working, all they do it cause conflict. Not wanted.
What is the underground/ black market economy?
Economic activity based on buying and selling products/services illegally.
What is tax evasion?
It is to misrepresent what you earn in order to avoid paying taxes.
How does tax evasion and the black market affect social programs?
They will create less amounts of money going into the government each year, because of this the quality and how social programs run will decrease. Overall it will make the quality of life worse.
What is health insurance?
It is an agreement by a company to pay for your health services, in return you pay them each month/year. This is the United States way of running healthcare.
How do different countries attempt to assess the public good?
Canada: cooperation, we look at the whole before the individual, so the government would do or make activities which affect the whole nation when needed.
Unities states: individualism, they look at the individual before the whole. The government would do things only when it’s the last resort. Everyone is for themselves.
What are some ways which labour unions achieve its goals?
They go on strike, this is to put pressure on the employer so that they change what the employees demand.
