ductus arteriosus
What is the function of the ductus arteriosus?
allows shunting of blood away from the non-functioning lungs into circulation

NSAIDs
causes reduction of PGs
[PGs maintain the latency of the DA in utero]
What is the ductus venosus?
connects umbilical vein to the IVC in utero
allows oxygenated blood to bypass the liver
also known as the Arantius’ duct
What is the foramen oval?
opening of atrial septum allowing blood flow from the RA to the LA
What is the function of the umbilical vein? What does is become ex utero?
carries oxygenated blood from placenta to foetus
becomes round ligament of liver
