What is nicorandil? What is its mechanism of action?
A
vasodilatory drug
used to treat angina
works as a K+ channel activator
works on GPCR with activation through guanylyl cyclase and increased cGMP

What are the adverse effects of nicorandil?
A
- headache
- flushing
- anal ulcerations

What are the contraindications for nicorandil?
A
- left ventricular failure
- acute pulmonary oedema

What are the side effects of ACE inhibitors?
A
- dry cough (caused by increased bradykinin levels)
- angioedema
- hyperkalaemia
- first dose hypotension (more common in patients also taking diuretics)

What are the contraindications for ACE inhibitors?
A
- pregnancy and breastfeeding
- renovascular disease
- aortic stenosis
- hereditary idiopathic angioedema
- hyperkalameia (should seek specialist advice)
