Structure passing through thoracic inlet
Muscles - sternohyoid, sternothyroid
Tubes- trachea, esophagus
Arteries- brachiocephalic trunk, left subclavian, left common carotid, internal thoracic, superior intercostal arteries
Nerves- recurrent laryngeal nerve, vagus nerve
Sympathetic chains

Sibsons fascia attachments
Apex- transverse process of C7 vertebra
Base- inner boundary of cartilagenous part of first rib
Superior surface- subclavian vessels
Inferior surface- cervical pleura
Functions of sibsons fascia
It protects the cervical pleura which protects the apex of the lung
It resists intra thoracic pressure during inspiration and exhalation such that neck is not puffed up and down during respiration
Boundaries of mediastinum
Anterior- sternum
Posterior - vertebral column
Superior- superior thoracic aperture
Inferior- diaphragm
One each side- mediastinal pleura
