Lowers ribs in expiration; supports intercostal space
Subcostal mm. Origin/insertion
Lower margin of lower ribs to inner surface of ribs two to three ribs below

Adjacent intercostal nn.

Lowers ribs in expiration
Transversus thoracis origin
Sternum and xiphoid process
Transverse thoracis m. Insertion
2nd to 6th ribs (costal cartilage, inner surface)

Weakly lowers ribs (expiration)
