Thoracic Endovascular Aneurysm Repair Flashcards
What is TEVAR
Thoracic EndoVascular Aneurysm Repair
Indication for TEVAR on the descending aorta
width > 6 cm rapid enlargment > 0.5 cm in 6 mths
TEVAR is done under MAC or General?
GENERAL
Thoracic aorta is larger in diameter then the abdominal aorta so
larger stent grafts are used in the thoracic area the abdominal area
READ the section CONDUCT OF THE OPERATION at the bottom of page 1 in this article. too much info
What artery supplies T8-L1
Adamkiewicz artery
Stent seal zone is how long proximally and distally
20 mm
Endoleak what is it
The persistant flow in the aneurysmal sac following endovascular repair
Type I Endoleak
Involves the proxinal or idstal seal zone
Type II Endoleak
Due to retrograde flow form intercostal arteries into the sac
Type III Endoleak
inadequate overlap and seal between modular components
Type IV Endoleak
Occurs due to porosity of the graft which is rare with current devices
Type V Endoleak
AKA Endotension is th continued expansion of the sac despite an identifiable leak
Device migration can occur ____ mm caudally
>10mm
TEVAR is prefered to open surgical repair because of a decrease in ____?
morbitity compared to Open
