What does slumps test test for
Increased pressure on nerve root
Technique for slumps
Sit on edge of couch + slump
Shoulders sag, spine flexed
Prac holds head + chin erect
Any symptoms?
If not- flex head + apply pressure
Extend Pt leg
Dorsiflex foot
Repeat on other foot
+ve slumps test
Shooting P in leg
Reproduction of original symptoms
Lsp- local lumbarsacral P, reproduction of symptoms (shooting leg P)
What does kemps test for
Acute inflammatory lesion, local sprain/strain, facet irritation, spinal fracture
Technique for kemps
Sitting: Edge of couch
Rest forearms on shoulders
Apply force down
No pain extension + pressure
E + rot to unaffected side
E + rot to affected side
Standing: Wrap arm around + touch back of leg
Repeat on other side
+ve Kemps
Localised pain
Lsp- increased peripheral pain/numbness, localised P
Specificity for standing Kemps
Low
Sensitivity for stadning Kemps
Low
Adams test procedure
Pt standing, examiner observes for rib hump when Pt attempts to touch toes
Adams interpretation
+ve Abnormal rib hump on one side–> scoliosis
Schepelmanns sign
Pt seated or standing, abducts shoulders 180, SB spine from side to side (SB/QL stretch)
Observe for uniform motion and signs of Pt discomfort
Schepelmanns interpretation
Rib P
Concave side- intercostal neuritis
Convex side- myofasciitis, intercostal strain, rib #
