Third Article Of Creed Flashcards
Having studied the Holy Spirit and his work, we inevitably lean about the Holy Trinity. Please define the term “Trinity.”
In the Bible, it is clearly stated that there is only one God. Yet, the Bible refers to the Father as 100% God, the Son 100% God, and the Holy Spirit 100% God and each are found doing only what God can do. Furthermore,we see passages showing the Father and the Sin and the Spirit are distinct from each other. This is a mystery and so in childlike faith we believe in one God three distinct persons
Give me two reasons why the doctrine of the Trinity is true even though it defies human reason
1) The Bible teaches us that God is beyond our comprehension, if we had a God that we could completely understand that would be a god of human invention, a false god.
2) The Bible reaches us that God is love. But love needs an object. In order for God to be love then he must be three even as he is one. All religions have a god who is either love or is not supreme. Only Christians provides both.
Briefly describe the work of each of the Three persons of the Trinity on such way that a 5-year-old could understand.
If our salvation were made into a movie, God the Father would be the Producer, God the Som would be the star, and God the Holy Spirit would be the Writer. As a part of the script, God the Holy Spirit would write us into the movie to trust in Jesus as the supper hero who saves us.
4) Part 1: By nature the Bible says we are sinful. How sinful are we in a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being absolutely evil and 10 being absolutely perfect?
According to the Bible we are absolutely evil by nature a 1 on a scale of 1-10
Part 2: but the Bible says that we are no longer our old self not we who are in Christ. The Bible says we have been made new. How good are we in God’s eyes because of Jesus making us his?
According to the Bible we are absolutely perfect in Christ a perfect 10 on a scale of 1-10
Part 3: Why does God see us in such extremes when we don’t see ourselves that way?
To God it’s no about the act of sin itself. It’s about whom it’s against for instance if someone punches a student a police officer and then the president the severity of punishment will increase due to authority the person had a punishment for punching the president brings death sin goes against God’s authority deserving eternal death
Our walk of faith is called a spiritual was in the Bible a war between your old self and your new and eternity hangs in the balance. How can we know if our new self will win over our old self?
God promises to uphold us in the fight and has already given us the victory in Christ. So we continue to nurture the new self which desires Christ and starve old self in its sinful desires which is doom to death. It’s like a dog fight and the fog you feed wins.
In order for us to receive Jesus the Holy Spirit works th right three tools. What are those three tools? What is the power behind those tools for use to receive Christ? And what term does the church use when referring to those tools?
The Holy Spirit uses the Bible Holy Baptism and the Lord’s Supper Sri reach people with Jesus and give people faith and strengthens faith. The power behind the Bible hole baptism and the Lord’s supper is the gospel the good new that Jesus Christ has given us his perfection forgiven all our sins and risen from death to prove it . The Church has called the three tools of the Bible holy baptism and the lords supper: the means of grace
The dividing line between heaven and hell is not good works which is what people believe by nature. The dividing line between heaven and hell is faith in Jesus. Define faith
1) Faith involves a knowledge that Jesus is the Savior of the world
2) Faith involves a recognition that it’s true that Jesus is the Savior of the world.
3) Faith at its essence is trust that Jesus is my Savior
5) Faith always produces repentance over sin
Explain the three different views within the Christian community on baptism
1) some believe baptism is an ordinance for adults only publicly show their faith in Jesus.
2) others believe baptism forgives original sin and sins committed until baptism
3) still others believe that baptism creates or strengthens faith in babies and strengthens faith in believing adults as it gives the gospel the forgiveness of sins by water and promise of Jesus. The last view is Luther’s vine in his small catechism a summery of the Holy scripture. This is the bien of school and st Peter and the core
If you were asked to explain what baptism was to 5 year old what illustration would you use?
A good illustration for baptism is adoption
Explain the three different views within the Christian community on the lord’s supper
1) the representation
2) the transubstantiation
3) the real presence which is the view of St. Peter
Why does God grant us forgiveness in a variety of ways and constantly through the word baptism he lords supper in worship and as we pray for forgiveness?
God grant us forgiveness not because we keep sinning and need more forgiveness. God forgave all our sins at the cross but he continues to give us forgiveness because we can’t hear and receive it enough. Just as a loving husband regularly says he loges his wife so too God regularly forgives us to communicate the highest from of love we need.
In luthers small catechism he also covers concepts like confessions and absolution and the ministry of the keys. Why does God want his purple to confess theirs sins not only to him to each other? And what are we to do when people confess their sins
God wants us to confess our sins to others whenever we need to be reconciled to donations or if we feel like we could not be forgiven or if we are entangled in a sin and can’t get out when someone confesses their sin we should always forgive them no matter how badly we or someone else has been hurt Jesus tells us that if we refuse to forgive someone their sin we will not be forgiven by God for our sins
