CNS effect

A

potent anticonvulsant, hypnotic action is potent, analgesic effect is poor, large doses needed before surgical anaesthesia, cardio respiratory center is depressed, CMR is reduced; decrease CBF, cerebral bld vol. and ICP.

myocardial contractility is depressed, peripheral vasodilatation, arterial pressure is decreased, profound hypotension may occur with hypovolaemia or cardiac DX, reflex tachycardia
