What are think-tanks?
A group that has been formed with the specific purpose of formulating and developing policy ideas e.g BeActive- encourages the unemployed to remain active.
-Privately funded by a group or individual that wishes to have workable ideas made into govt policy.
-They would encourage govt policies which fit in with their ideological perspective.
Left-wing think-tanks
Fabian society- issues concerning social justice and equality
Institute for Public Policy- various left-wing ideas.
Right-wing think-tanks
Adam Smith Institute- promoting free-market solutions to economic issues.
Institute of Economic Affairs- promoting free-market solutions to economic issues.
Liberal think-tanks
-an independent, non-party think-tank.
Liberty- promoting issues concerning the protection of rights and liberties.
Neutral think-tanks
Chatham House- international affairs.
Tony Blair and think-tanks
Heavily relied on think-tanks in order to help formulate New Labour policies to steer away from traditional hard-left policies which would’ve emerged within the Labour party.
