evidence of neuron growth - Elizabeth Gould found what?
elizabeth Gould and other found:
- found more natural environments helped neurogenesis, encourages neuron growth then poorer conditions/ stressful environments
who is responsible for demonstrating neurogenesis in humans
Fred “Rusty” Gage
- injected a substance called BrdU into people \
- BrdU is incorporated into dividing cells so they can be tracked
- BrdU can be used to track how aggressive a tumor is by using it to watch its growth rate
- after patients injected with BrdU died, Rusty opened up their brain to find new neurons in the hippocampus
- turns out same part of the hippocampus that rats and monkeys had most neuron growth as well
what is psychophysics?
the study of how people perceive physical stimuli
why does locked-in syndrome happen?
usually, damage to the pons
when you turn off the light show long do photosins in cones and rods take?
cones - 5min
rods - 30min
