What is absurdism

A

Philosophical school much associated with Camus. Absurdity is gap between subjective assessment and objective reality. The lack of meaning in the world. Responses could be suicide, religion or rebellion which seems forceful seeking of own meaning. Irony to. Different from Nihilism because it involves fact that cannot get over no meaning.

Q

What is Radchenko concencerned with in his book To Run the World

A

He is concerned with issues of recognition and how they weighed in the minds of Soviet leaders and interacted with issues of security and ideology. refers to Fukuyama’s focus on recognition and Hegel. Comapres individual need for recognition and compares to states. Note that states made of people and although such a focus might be reductionist (Popper rubbished as psychologism) - it can form part of story. How individuals like Stalin interacted with social environment and vice versa.

What was Stalins attitude in early Cold War?

A

Stalin wanted external recognition and was willing to make compromises to achieve it even giving things away that he strictly didn’t need to (to a point) - concessions on Poland. Wasn’t initially interested in Communist Europe but was in influence/ control.
