Opium
a reddish-brown heavy-scented addictive drug prepared from the juice of the opium poppy, used as a narcotic and in medicine as an analgesic
Tonic
a medicinal substance taken to give a feeling of vigor or well-being.
Hot Rod
a motor vehicle that has been specially modified to give it extra power and speed.
Chassis
the outer structural framework of a piece of audio, radio, or computer equipment; typically that of a motor vehicle or other wheeled conveyance.
Cash for Clunker Programs
“Cash for Clunkers” programs refer to government initiatives that offer financial incentives to individuals who trade in old, fuel-inefficient vehicles for newer, more fuel-efficient ones.
Yellow-Dog Contracts
Late 19th / Early 20th agreements which prohibited workers from unionizing.
Yellow-Dog Democrats
Phrase used to describe late 19th-century Southern Democrats who would vote for a “yellow dog” democrat over a Republican.
The phrase is used more colloquially now as someone who unrelentingly (usually down the ticket) votes Democrat.
Norris-La Guardia Act (Anti-Injunction Bill)
Federal law passed in 1932 which banned yellow-dog contracts (contracts which prohibit workers from joining unions)

A court order requiring a person to do or cease doing a specific action.
