Thigh Muscles Flashcards
Piriformis
O: Anterior surface of sacrum
I: Medial side of superior border of greater trochanter.
Branches from L5, S1, S2
Externally rotates the extended femur at the hip joint, abducts the flexed femur at the hip joint.
Obturator Internus
O: Obturator Membrane.
I: Medial side of greater trochanter
Nerve to obturator internus
Externally rotates the extended femur at the hip joint, abducts the flexed femur at the hip joint.
Gemellus superior
O: External surface of ischial spine.
I: Medial side of greater trochanter.
Nerve to obturator internus.
Externally rotates the extended femur at the hip joint, abducts the flexed femur at the hip joint.
Quadratus Femoris
O: Ischial tuberosity
I: Quadrate tubercle
Nerve to quadratus femoris
Externally rotates the femur at the hip joint.
Gluteus Minimus
O: Ilium between inferior and anterior gluteal lines
I: Greater trachanter.
Superior gluteal nerve
Abducts the femur at the hip joint, holds pelvis secure over stance leg and prevents pelvic drop on opposite swing side during walking, internally rotates thigh.
Gluteus Medius
O: Ilium between anterior and posterior gluteal lines
I: Greater Trochanter.
Superior gluteal nerve.
Abducts the femur at the hip joint, hold pelvis secure over stance leg and prevents pelvic drop on opposite swing side during walking, internally rotates thigh.
Gluteus Maximus
O: Ilium behind posterior gluteal line
I: Iliotibial tract, gluteal tuberosity
Inferior gluteal nerve.
Extensor of a flexed femur at hip, lateral stabilizer of hip joint and knee joint, eternal rotates and abducts thigh.
Tensor Fascia Lata
O: Ilium between ASIS and tubercle of the crest
I: Iliotibial tract
Superior gluteal Nerve
Stabilizes the knee in extension
Psoas Major
O: Lumbar transverse processes from T12-L5
I: Lesser trochanter of femur.
Anterior Rami L1, L2, L3 (Nerve to psoas major)
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint.
Iliacus
O: Posterior abdominal wall
I: Lesser trochanter of femur
Femoral Nerve
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint.
Vastus Medialis
O: Medial lip of the linea aspera, Medial supra condylar line.
I: Quadriceps tendon
Femoral Nerve.
Extends the leg at the knee joint.
Vastus Intermedius
O: Upper 2/3 of anterior and lateral surfaces of the femur.
I: Quadriceps Tendon
Femoral Nerve
Extends the leg at the knee joint.
Vastus Lateralis
O: Intertrochanteric Line, Laterla lip of the linea aspera
I: Quadriceps tendon
Femoral Nerve
Extends the leg at the knee joint.
Rectus Femoris
O: Straight Head: AIIS, Reflected Head: Ilium just superior to the acetabulum
I: Quadriceps Tendon
Femoral Nerve.
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint, extends the leg at the knee joint.
Sartorius
O: ASIS
I: Medial surface of the tibia.
Femoral Nerve.
Flexes the thigh at the hip joint, flexes the leg at the knee joint, externally rotates thigh.
