O: ASIS (anterior superior iliac spine)
I: Medial surface of the upper tibia (pes anserine)
A: Flex thigh (hip), laterally rotate femur, flex leg (knee)
N: Femoral nerve (L2, L3)
Quadriceps Femoris
O:
- rectus femoris: AIIS (anterior inferior iliac spine)
- vastus lateralis: linea aspera
- vastus medialis: linea aspera
- vastus intermedius: upper anterior femur
I: Tibial tuberosity via the patella
A: Extend leg (knee), flex femur (rectus femoris)
N: Femoral nerve (L2, L3, L4)
Pectineus
O: Pubis
I: Linea aspera
A: Adduct and flex the femur
N: Femoral nerve
Adductor Longus and Brevis
O: Pubis
I: Linea aspera
A: Adduct and flex femur
N: Obturator nerve
Gracilis
O: Pubis
I: Medial upper tibia (pes anserine)
A: Adduct femur, flex leg (knee)
N: Obturator nerve
Adductor Magnus
O: Pubis and ischium
I: Linea aspera, adductor tubercle
A: Adduct femur (adductor), extend femur (hamstring)
N: Obturator and sciatic nerves
(Adductor magnus has opening called the adductor hiatus, through which the femoral artery and vein pass)
Semitendinosus
O: Ischial tuberosity
I: Upper medial tibia (pes anserine)
A: Extend femur (hip), flex and medially rotate leg (knee)
N: Tibial branch of sciatic nerve
Semimembranosus
O: Ischial tuberosity
I: Medial condyle of tibia
A: Extend femur (hip), flex and medially rotate leg (knee)
N: Tibial branch of sciatic nerve
Biceps Femoris
O: Long head: Ischial tuberosity. Short head: Linea aspera
I: Head of fibula
A: Long head: Extend femur (hip), flex and laterally rotate leg (knee). Short head: Flex and laterally rotate leg (knee).
N: Long head: Tibial branch of sciatic nerve. Short head: Common fibular branch of sciatic nerve.
