Thigh Flashcards
Sole bone of the thigh
Femur
Formed by the articulation of femur with tibia & patella
Knee joint
Head of femur + acetabulum = hip joint
Ball and socket structure whose movements occur in all (6) axes. Limited by ligaments and acetabulum.
Hip joint
Cartilaginous structure lining the acetabulum
Acetabular labrum
Structure behind the femur head. Injury to this structure results to ‘foot drop’
Sciatic nerve
(3) Contributes chiefly to hip stability
- Shape of acetabulum
- Acetabular labrum
- Ligamentum teres (attaches to fovea capitis)
3 capsular ligaments
- iliofemoral
- ischiofemoral
- pubofemoral
Flexion at the hip
L2, L3, L4, iliospsoas
Extension at the hips
S1, gluteus maximus
Adduction at the hips
L2, L3, L4, adductors
Abduction at the hips
L4, L5, S1, gluteus medius & maximus
Largest, triangular sesamoid bone. Improves the leverage of the thigh muscles across the knee.
Patella (embedded in the tendon of quadriceps muscles)
