Thesis and Concept Statements Flashcards
Thesis 1:
(Human beings by nature) absorb new information that can be extrapolated upon to form meaning that is either harmonious (builds up perceptions/positive mental state) or discordant (new perceptions/negative mental state) to prior understandings.
T1 C1:
(Discordant) New information from negative key moments within both, show the main character that their worlds are ones without hope, that they are savage beings that have no one to rely on, and they lose hope.
T1 C2:
(Harmonious) However, as these individuals continue to interact with others, they make discoveries that renew their hope and learn to accept themselves and others.
Thesis 2:
“Human beings by nature when presented with new worlds and information, re-evaluate prior understandings to form new perspectives, leading to new values.”
T2 C1:
An individual can develop a new world view that is influenced by their mental state, which in turn is affected by what side of humanity they come into contact with. When coming into contact with the darker side of humanity, an individual can lose hope and develop a negative view of themselves and others.
T2 C2:
However, if an individual comes into contact with the lighter side of humanity, their mental state can become more positive and more accepting of themselves and others.
Thesis 3:
“Human beings by nature, due to discoveries and the act of discovering, draw intense meaning from experiences in either the intellectual or emotional realm, both which have equal potential to have either beautiful or devastating effects.”
T3 C1:
“Intellectual discoveries are important to an individual, as it effects their ability to reason and seek meaning form the world around them and the world inside of them, and to interact with those worlds.
T3 C2:
“In a similar manner, emotional discoveries are important to an individual as they impact the way that they react to the actions of themselves and others, ultimately seeking meaning from their lives, be it positive or negative.”
