Theuseus was the son of Aegeus, the King of Athens.
Who had the Athenians been at war with?
They had been at war with Crete, whose king was called Minos.
What did Minos keep in a labyrinth under his palace?
The Minotaur, a creature half man and half bull.

He promised to return safely but if he were to die the ship would return with black sails.

Ariadne, King Minos’s daughter. They fell in love.
What did Ariadne give Theseus?
Magic, gold thread and a sword.
What happened when Theseus entered the labyrinth?
He killed the Minotaur and found his way back out with the thread,

The island of Naxos.

Theseus abandoned Ariadne there.
