convection.

- Pain relief
- Reduce spasm & spasticity
- Promote healing
- Resolution of chronic oedema
- Increase joint range.
- Prophylaxis of pressure sores - increased blood flow to pressure areas reduces the risk of skin breakdown.
- Dry heating reduces infection

What are the CI to thermotherapy? 10
A
- Over acute injuries or haemorrhagic areas
- Immediately after the administration of analgesia.
- Areas of gross oedema thin skin
- Over anaesthetized areas/ areas of impaired sensation.
- Areas of inadequate blood supply.•
- Over malignant areas.
- Over thrombophlebitic areas may dislodge the thrombus.
- To the abdominal, pelvic & lower back area of pregnant
women. - Over gonads.
- Unreliable patients.

What are the dangers and precautions to thermotherapy? 6
A
- Burns overdose & contraindications not properly established.
- Superficial metal implants.
- Open or closed wounds (over the dressings).
- Cardiac insufficiency.
- Dermatological conditions.
- Don’t let them fall asleep.
