thermoregulatory Flashcards
1
Q
what is the optimum temperature for the body
A
37 degrees celcius
2
Q
where is body temperature regulated
A
in the thermoregulatory centre in the brain
3
Q
what happens when temperatures are too high
A
- vasodialation : blood vessels dialate
- sweat is produced, evaporating and cooling us down
- hairs lay flat, making sure there is no insulating air
4
Q
what happens when temperatures are too low
A
- vasoconstriction : muscles cells contract and restrict, the movement requiring energy from respiration and keeping us warm
- hairs stand erect , creating an insulating layer of air
- blood vessels constrict, decreasing blood flow and saving heat
5
Q
what type of process/loop is thermoregulation
A
negative feedback
