Thermodynamics Flashcards
What is Boyles law?
For constant mass of gas at constant temperature, the pressure is inversely proportional to its volume
What is Charles law?
For constant mass of gas at constant pressure, the volume is proportional to the temperature
What is the pressure law?
For a constant mass of gas at a constant volume, the pressure is proportional to its temperature
What is the ideal gas equation?
PV=NkT
N=number of molecules
k=Boltzmann’s constant
What is the overall gas law equation?
PV/T=PV/T
What is specific heat capacity?
The energy needed to raise 1kg unit by 1 Kelvin
What is the specific heat capacity equation?
C=E/m(theta)
Why is water a good conductor?
This is because it has a high specific heat capacity which takes large increases in energy for small increases in temperature
What is vaporisation?
The change of state from liquid to gas and gas to liquid
What is fusion?
The change of state from solid to liquid and liquid to solid
What is the latent heat equation?
E=mL
What five properties are needed for an ideal gas?
- Contains large molecules
- Molecules have rapid random motion
- Molecules have negligible volume
- There are no inter-molecular forces
- Collisions are perfectly elastic and instantaneous
