ThermoDynamics Flashcards
ATP makeup
ATP= ADP+Pi+FE+H
ATP
most common high energy molecule in the body
Energy is contained in the terminal phosphate bonds
what is heat?
unusable form of energy that we dissipate into environment
What is active transport?
Moving from an area of low concentration to high concentration
What is the difference between concentration gradient and active transport?
concentration moves from high to low, no energetic cost
active transport is moving from low concentration to high concentration
Principles of Human Energy
- 1.Conversion of energy (we do not create)
- 2.Conversion Process=efficient, However we lose loss of heat
-we are 20-40% efficient.
Q 10 Effect
If you alter the temperature of an enzyme by 10 deg C, you will alter the rate at which that enzyme functions
What is energy?
the capacity to do work
what is the first law of thermodynamics?
Energy is not created nor destroyed but is transformed from one form to another
PE
energy of position, has the capacity to do work
KE
energy of motion(mechanical energy) ex. muscle contraction
How are KE and PE related?
If kinetic energy increases, potential energy decreases inversely proportional
What is BioSynthesis?
anytime we convert chemical to mechanical energy
what is a exergonic process ?
any chemical process that is a release of energy (downhill process)
what is a exothermic process?
A process that releases heat into its surroundings.
what is a endergonic process?
A chemical reaction that requires energy input to proceed.
what is the second law of thermodynamics?
Biological processes always occur in a direction of randomness and disorder.( There will always be some sort of insufficiency)
what is enthalpy?
Enthalpy = Entropy + Free Energy
What is entropy?
Entropy is a measure of disorder or randomness in a system.
