Thermal Physics Flashcards
Internal Energy
The sum of the randomly distributed kinetic and potential energies of the particles in a substance
Specific Heat Capacity
Energy needed to raise the temperature of a material by 1K and is measured in j/kgk
Specific latent heat of vaporisation
Energy needed to change 1kg of a liquid into 1kg if gas at a constant temperature and us measured in J/Kg
Specific latent heat of fusion
Energy needed to change 1 kg I a solid into the 1 kg of a liquid at a constant temperature. Measured in J/Kg
Boyle’s Law
The volume of a fixed mass of gas at a constant temperature is inversely proportional to its pressure
Charles’s Law
The volume of a fixed mass of a gas at constant pressure is directly proportional to its Kelvin temperature
Pressure Law
For a fixed mass of gas at a constant volume the pressure is directly proportional to the kelvin temperature
Avogadro’s Law
Equal volumes of gas contain equal numbers of molecules at constant temperature and pressure
Ideal gas
A theoretical gas that obeys all gas laws
