Thermal Physics Flashcards
What is absolute zero?
The lowest possible temperature (-273 celsius) where the particles have least kinetic energy.
What increases internal energy?
A rise in the temperature of an object
What is increase in temperature?
An increase in the average kinetic energies of all the particles in the object.
What is specific heat capacity?
The energy required per unit mass per unit temperature increase.
What can you say about thermal radiation?
- it is infrared radiation
- all objects emit this radiation
Does radiation need a medium?
No
What happens if an object receives energy at a lesser rate than it losses?
It heats up.
What happens if an object looses energy at a lesser rate than it receives?
It cools down
How can an object be at constant temperature?
It needs to transfer energy away from the object at the same rate that it receives energy.
