Thermal Energy Flashcards
What is a conductor?
A material that transfers heat energy quickly or easily.
What is an insulator?
Something that prevents or slows down heat energy transfer.
What is Thermal Energy?
The total kinetic energy of the tiny particles that make up matter.
What is Heat?
The movement of energy from one object to another.
What is Conduction?
When two different objects make contact and the heat transfers from the warmer object to the cooler one.
What is Convection?
Another way that heat transfers from something that is warmer to something that is cooler.
What is Radiation?
Heat transfering through invisble waves.
What is Thermal Equilibrium?
It’s when two objects at different temperatures become the same temperature.
Law of Conservation of Energy.
Energy cannot be made or destroyed.
