Successive Approximation
A
“Sound Shaping”
- a facilitative technique that capitalizes on a sound that the client can already make to help him or her learn a new sound
- the sound used to facilitate the production of the target can either be a speech sound or another type of sound that the client can make without difficulty
- guides client through a series of graded steps

Manual Guidance
A
- the clinician physically assists the client in the production of the target sound
(ex: teaching /b/, the clinician may shape the client’s lips for appropriate seal using his or her fingers
