Excision of the pharyngeal tonsils, or adenoids.
Adenoidectomy
Surgical repair of a bronchial defect.
Bronchoplasty
Passage of a tube through the mouth into the trachea to ensure a patent (open) airway.
Endotracheal intubation
Excision of the voice box.
Laryngectomy
Excision of a portion or a lobe of the lung or the entire lung. Called a lobectomy when an entire lobe is excised and a pneumonectomy when the entire lung is excised.
Pulmonary resection
Surgical repair of the nose for healthcare or cosmetic reasons.
Rhinoplasty
Surgical repair of the wall between the nares.
Septoplasty
Incision of a sinus.
Sinusotomy
Aspiration of a fluid from the pleural cavity. Also called pleurocentesis or thoracentesis.
Thoracocentesis
Incision of the chest as a means of approach for surgery.
Thoracotomy
Excision of the palatine tonsils.
Tonsillectomy
Opening through the neck into the trachea, through which an indwelling tube may be inserted temporarily or permanently.
Tracheostomy
Incision made into the trachea below the larynx to gain access to the airway; usually performed as an emergency procedure.
