Q

liberal femism

A

Another feminist concept that has contributed to our understanding of 21 century britain is liberal feminism , who believes the system is at fault and can be changed through reforms , and as a result women have been on a march of progress since the 1960s with the equal pay act , abortion act and getting the vote . Sharpe investigated this and its impact on young women with a longitudinal study and found there aspirations had changed and become more career focused over a domestic life . she found more people favouring creative singlehood , where can live independently and disregard relationships and family life in a post modern society that allows women the choice to do so. However this theory is economically deterministic as most women can not sustain this lifestyle. Further the marxism feminists would argue that capitalism prevents women from getting a job as they want them preoccupied with domestic chores whilst the man is at work , seeking profit from the cleaning products used by the women . otherwise men would have to pay for cleaners likely asking for a pay rise wich does not benefit capitalism .

Q

radical femnism

A

One feminist concept that has contributed to our understanding of 21st century Britain is radical feminism , who believe men are the centre of the problem and patriarchy is at the heart of society . Adrian Rich takes this a step further and believes that all herterosexual acts and relationships are a reflection of patriarchy and abuse . she believes the solution for this is for women to only engage in homosexual relationships and discard men to avoid abuse and patriarchy . Firestone expands on this, suggesting the solution is for men and women to live entirely separately and women can recreate through IVF and modern treatments . However these theories place women into one homogenous group as women have more choice and individual experiences especially in post-modern society and would not work and only 3.3% of women are homosexual .

Q

sure start

A

In 1997 , new labour [ left] came to power and wanted to tackle the socially excluded , particularly the young and lone parents who end up relying on benefits, and created sure start centres . these provided free childcare so people could receive education and qualifications and also gave them interview practice so they could get jobs . once they had a job they would start paying taxes and feeding back into society [keeping up with the joneses]. Further the liberal feminist liked this as it gave children a role model and inspiration to get education . however the problems with this were that it was expensive with a success rate of only 25%. However perspectivally the rate of drug addicts going to recovery centres is 3%. Further the middle class were taking advantage of free childcare.

life expectancy

A

Dependent of places - nicer places have better standards of living - higher life expectancy- places have higher levels of addiction
Nhs [ free healthcare] , medical advancements, vaccines
Care homes - old people living longer
a02-These are diseases as a result of increased wealth in society, for example diabetes and cardiovascular diseases as a result of toxic diets . diseases of poverty are also an affecting factor of death rates in poorer areas. For example, Census 2021 states that 40% of male deaths were avoidable in the most deprived areas of England compared with 17.8% in the least deprived areas . further addiction problems as diseases of poverty/affluence are also higher in deprived areas.
Another reason for an decrease in death rates is changes in lifestyles .
