What is specific about the episodic memory
Is time stamped, we can recall when it happened
It requires a conscious effort to recall
What is the episodic memory
Memory of Events in our lives such as a birthday or a trip to a dentist
What is the semantic memory
Memory of ‘shared knowledge of the real world’ and is less personal than the episodic memory, everyone knows what a plum is but not everyone knows who your dad is.
What is the procedural memory
Memory of how to do things, such as ride a bike or stir a cup of tea
What kind of LTM did Clive wearing lack
Clive wearings brain damage caused harm to his hippocampus, he couldn’t remember personal details other than his wife but he could remember how to play music (lost episodic but retained procedural)
Tulving developed the types of LTM but what does he think now
Episodic memory is a type of Semantic memory (can have damaged episodic memory without damaged semantic memory but not the other way around)
