What does teleological mean? (against)
~Explaining a cause of something by its effect.
~Effect cannot explain a cause, a cause must always come BEFORE an effect.
What does continued existence mean? (against)
- Once institutions originate, it continues to exist as though it has a beneficial effect on the system.
-difficult to establish if the net effect of any institution is beneficial to society.
What is questioning value consensus? (against)
~Critics argue that consensus is assumed rather than shown to definitely exist.
~Stability of society may owe more to the absence rather than the presence of value consensus.
What does determinism mean?
~Social System has needs, the behaviour of its members are shaped to fit those needs.
~People are seen as the creation of the system, rather than creating a social world.
