Important theories of or related to dynamic psych
a psychological theory that explains how people form emotional bonds, especially with caregivers.
based on the idea that early relationships with caregivers have a significant impact on a person’s development
Attatchment theory / attatchment paradigm
a fear of imminent mental or physical destruction, oftentimes triggered by stress or being overwhelmed.
(often linked to our fear system; our evolutionary-residual fear of being eaten)
(can be psychiatrically treated w/ Benzos or other downer drugs)
Examples:
- being overwhelmed
- losing control
- suffocation; exploding; shrinking; being destroyed
- loss of self-cohesion
Annihilation anxiety
behaviors that can be a way to cope with negative experiences, but can also lead to cycles of anxiety (often linked with depression as well)
Examples:
- reassurance seeking
- negative feedback seeking
- self-harm
-substance abuse
- safety behaviors (taking action to reduce chance of public embarrassment)
- co-rumination (constantly discussing problems with others)
Maladaptive interpersonal patterns
an anxiety disorder that causes people to experience excessive fear of being separated from their home or loved ones
(linked to the evolutionary panic-grief system… separation of a mammal from its mother)
(can be psychiatrically treated with SSRI’s)
Separation anxiety
the capacity to understand and interpret one’s own and others’ thoughts, feelings, and intentions accurately
Mentalization (Peter Fonagy)
the process of consolidating various aspects of one’s self, fostering a cohesive and authentic identity
Identity Integration
a lack of clear self; confusion and uncertainty about one’s values, goals, and identity
- the type of person who feels fractured, and easily confused about who they are
