Theories of coordination Flashcards
1
Q
What is open loop control (Keele, 1968)?
A
- once the brain sends a command to the muscle, there is no further interaction between the two.
- Entire movement organised by the brain and no other info (feedback) is needed to control movement.
2
Q
What is Closed loop control (Adams 1971)?
A
- Memory trace interprets sensory info and plan the motor program.
- motor program (Effector or perceptual trace) carries carries out action.
- possible to adapt movement if needed due to temporary feedback which is compared to the memory trace.
3
Q
What is the difference between open loop and closed loop control?
A
the way sensory feedback is used to alter movement/technique.
4
Q
What is the Schema Theory (Schmidt, 1975)
A
we store a series of general motor programs that group together similar movements
